The Full Monty

The British based newspaper, The Guardian, is fast becoming one of my preferred news sources. Although it is with some dismay that I say this, The Guardian is one of the few places where you can find a balanced and accurate appraisal of events in the United States, and the rest of the World for that matter. The coverage of the conflict of Iraq goes into much greater detail than any of the U.S. dailys, and there is a genuine focus on the World outside of the U.S. and the U.K.

Thank you for sitting through that brief commercial. Back to the point. Last Saturday there was a brilliant and biting opinion piece by Monty Python alum Terry Jones. Here is a brief excerpt:

"Tony Blair tells us that we should do everything we can to support America. And I agree. I think we should repudiate those who inflict harm on Americans, we should shun those who bring America itself into disrepute and we should denounce those who threaten the freedom and democracy that are synonymous with being American.

That is why Tony's recent announcement that he wishes to stand shoulder to shoulder with George Bush is so puzzling."

The rest of the piece is witty and intelligent, and the fact that it is by Terry Jones makes it that much sweeter.
