Of A Dying Breed
Bill Moyers, the quintessential journalist, will be sorely missed after his imminent retirement from his longtime PBS broadcast role. This man, noted for his honesty, integrity, fairness and balance, is still making a valuable contribution to the national discourse. Here is a short, but eloquent, piece on the role of the media in the political life in America, that is introduced this way:
"Between media consolidation and an administration shrouded in impenetrable secrecy, keeping an eye on government has gotten a lot harder. In this speech to the Newspaper Guild of America, the elder statesman of journalism reminds us that freedom and freedom of the press were 'birth twins' of the American Revolution."
Highly recommended.
