Bush-Hoover Bookends

It has already been noted by economists that the Bush administration might be the first administration to preside over a net loss of jobs since Herbert Hoover. Now, Bush might be joining Hoover in yet another ignominious distinction.

CNN.com is reporting that President Bush has once again declined an invitation to speak at the NAACP's annual convention.

Although Bush did speak at the NAACP convention while campaigning in 2000, "NAACP spokesman John White said Wednesday that Bush has declined invitations in each year of his presidency -- becoming the first president since Herbert Hoover not to attend an NAACP convention." [emphasis added]

I guess this is an example of what Bush meant when he claimed to be a "compassionate conservative" and "uniter not a divider."
