Always a Day Away
I must say, it is truly stunning to see all the Friedman Units and related "critical period" and "turning point" declarations put together on a handy timeline (with pictures too!). Take a look. It's almost mesmerizing. The whole concept of the Friedman Unit (that the Iraq mission will fail or succeed in the then-current six month period - which has been repeated consistently over many six month periods) is one that the left blogosphere has been flogging for some time now. The timeline, however, makes it clear that this recent scrutiny of the neverending stream of pundit and politician can-kicking only starts up very late in the game. Rewind the interactive timeline to the beginning and chart the dishonesty - a ubiquitous rhetorical pattern that begins before the invasion itself in some instances.
